HK swimming star Haughey claims silver, 2nd medal at Tokyo Olympics
Hong Kong's swimming star Siobhan Haughey won the second medal of the Tokyo Olympics for the SAR on Wednesday (July 28) morning, racing to silver in the women's 200m freestyle final.
Haughey led for most of the race but lost at the finish to Australian 400m free gold medalist Ariarne Titmus.
This is the first time Hong Kong wins a swimming medal at the Olympics. Haughey, 23, is the first Hongkonger ever to reach an Olympic swimming final.
She is expected to compete on Wednesday night in as part of the Hong Kong team in the women's 200m freestyle relay and the 100m heats. She will also race the 50m freestyle events, setting her up for a busy schedule in Tokyo.
Haughey, who was born and grew up in Hong Kong, has been improving since her debut at the Rio Games in 2016 and entered the 200m freestyle with one of the top three times this year for the event.
