Kenneth Fok Kai-kong, vice-president of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China said on Saturday that he was confident that Hong Kong athletes will perform well in the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games.
The delegation of China's Hong Kong includes 97 people, of which 46 are athletes. They will compete in 13 sports at the Tokyo Olympic Games which run from July 23 through Aug 8.
"I am proud of these achievements, the past year is hard for us, many qualifications were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we didn't know how many spots we can earn at that time, but finally we have 46 athletes, it is great," Fok said.
His confidence was further boosted with the delegation's chances for good achievements in cycling, fencing, swimming and gymnastics.
"Now our working staff have arrived in Tokyo, and the athletes will start their trip constantly. The athletes' village just confirmed the first positive COVID-19 case which makes us a little nervous, but all the members in our delegation have self-protection awareness," he added.
Fok revealed that the committee would also host a series of sports activities during the Olympic Games in Hong Kong.
"We expect the citizens to participate in these activities like climbing, promoting the Olympic spirit in Hong Kong," Fok said.
