Watch This | Regina Ip: With backing of CPC, particularly improved electoral system, HK has a bright future

A grand gathering was held this morning (July 1) at Tian'anmen Square in Beijing to celebrate the centenary of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Regina Ip, member of the Executive Council and the Legislative Council was at the scene to take part in the celebration. DotDotNews speaks with Ms. Ip to get her first-hand information.

"The CPC has worked miracles for China in the past 100 years, and against China's 5,000 years civilization. 100 years is only the beginning of the next phase of success of the CPC." Ms. Ip tells DotDotNews, "With the backing of the CPC, particularly with the enactment of the national security law and improvement of our electoral system. I think Hong Kong will have a very bright future."

Ms.Ip has taken part in two events, the very spectacular cultural show on the 28th evening and this morning's gathering at Tian'anmen Square, at which Chinese President Xi Jinping, also the general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, attended and delivered an important speech.

"In both events, the heroic struggle of the Chinese Communist Party from the late Qing era was recalled. At that time, China was being virtually dismembered by the imperialist powers and then the CPC based on Marxism, managed to reinvent China fight off foreign occupation, and rebuilt China into a modern and prosperous nation." says Ms. Ip

Commenting on Xi's speech, Ms. Ip points out three main aspects. "In regard to the nation, his message is learning from history and creating a new future. With regard to the foreign international community, Chairman Xi made clear that China's a peace-loving country, we have no history of foreign aggression, but we will stand firm against any attempt to encroach on our territory, and suppress our rights and our unity." She says, "And in regard to the two special administrative regions, Chairman Xi pledged that the CPC will continue to implement 'one country, two systems' in accordance with the original intent and purposes."

Speaking about the future of the development of the nation, Ms. Ip says that HK has unique advantages. "We are a global financial center. We are the most open, inclusive and international city of China. I think we can continue to make use of our knowledge of the international community and our ability to communicate with them, to tell the true story of China and to help our country. We make more friends, build more bridges to the rest of the world."
