Coronavirus | 1 untraceable local infection among 14 new in HK
Hong Kong confirmed 14 new COVID-19 cases on Friday (April 9), including two locally transmitted infections, pushing the city's overall infection tally to 11,563.
Among the 12 imported cases reported on Friday, six were from the Philippines, two from India, two from Egypt and one each from Indonesia and Canada, Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the Centre for Health Protection's communicable disease branch, said at a briefing.
The source of origin of one of the local case remained unknown. It involved a 42-year-old woman who worked at a Mannings store at Tai Hang Building in Yuen Long, Chuang said. The woman developed a headache on March 26. At least 18 of her co-workers have been put under quarantine.
The patient also went tomb sweeping and dined with 15 family members on Sunday, all of whom would be quarantined, Chuang said.
About 10 people tested preliminarily positive for the coronavirus. Two of them were residents at Oi Fai House in Yau Oi Estate in Tuen Mun, Chuang said.
The 66-year-old man and 6-year-old boy lived at units 9 on different floors. A 70-year-old woman who lived at unit 9 on a lower floor had previously confirmed infected. Chuang said experts will inspect the building to ascertain the possibility of vertical transmission.
Two chronically ill senior citizens died from the disease on Friday morning, bringing the city's COVID-related toll to 207. They were a 69-year-old man who was first hospitalized on Jan 17 and an 83-year-old woman who was admitted to the hospital on Jan 22, according to Hospital Authority's chief manager Sara Ho.
