
Mitsuhiro WADA, Consul-General of Japan in Hong Kong, held the conferment ceremony on Friday (March 26) for Pui Kwan Kay, President of the Judo Association of Hong Kong, China, and recipient of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays in the Reiwa 2 Autumn Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals.
The Conferment of Decorations on foreign recipients is awarded to individuals in recognition of their significant contribution to promoting friendship and exchanges between Japan and their countries or regions. The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays has been conferred on Pui in recognition of his contribution to promoting the development of judo in Hong Kong and exchanges with Japan through judo.
WADA said during the ceremony, "Since Mr. Pui became the President of The Judo Association of Hong Kong, for over 20 years, he has shown enthusiasm and generosity in devoting his life to the promotion of judo in Hong Kong and the friendship between Japan and Hong Kong. In addition to serving as the President of the Judo Association of Hong Kong, China, Mr. Pui is also one of Hong Kong's leading and prominent figures in the fields of sport and literature. The Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held this summer, and I know that Mr. Pui will be leading a delegation of Hong Kong athletes to Japan. At this memorable time of the year, I hope that Mr. Pui's conferment of the decoration will serve as an opportunity to further promote active exchange through judo between Japan and Hong Kong, and from Hong Kong reaching throughout the world."
Pui remarked, "It is my motto that "sport generates power, life is about dedication. This honor is the greatest encouragement and motivation for me, as a sports lover, to continue to work hard and improve. I promise that I will continue to actively support the promotion and development of judo in the future, and contribute to facilitating sports exchanges and friendship between Hong Kong and Japan."
Representatives from the Judo Association of Hong Kong, China, the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and the Hong Kong Football Association also joined Pui at the ceremony.
