The National People's Congress has earlier adopted the decision to improve HK's electoral system. The HK government is facing a tight schedule to complete local legislation after the Standing Committee of the NPC amends Annex I and Annex II to the HKSAR's Basic Law.
DotDotNews invites Secretary for Justice Teresa Cheng for an exclusive interview. Cheng says that the Department of Justice will strictly follow the NPC’s decision and relevant laws when carrying out the legislative work.
In the meantime, the U.S. has recently made some adjustments to its electoral system while imposing sanctions on Chinese officials over HK's reform.
"That's a clear manifestation of double standards. They make all these uncalled-for comments. It’s absolutely unfair," says Cheng.
What preparatory work will the Department of Justice do in regard to the relevant law amendments? What will HK do to achieve the goal to become a center for international legal and dispute resolution services in the Asia-Pacific region, as mentioned in the country's 14th Five-year Plan?
