Exclusive | A brighter future of 'She Power': Inspiring talks by diplomats from UAE & Israel on historic Abraham Accords

By Hao Li & Ang Li

To celebrate International Women's Day and the historic Abraham Accords, Asia Society Hong Kong Center and Jewish Women's Association of HK held a seminar last week with two prominent diplomats, Mariam Alshamsi, Acting Consul General of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in HKSAR, and Ahuva Spieler, Consul General of Israel in HKSAR.

The Abraham Accords were signed in August of 2020, and it marks the first public normalization of relations between an Arab country and Israel since that of Egypt in 1979 and Jordan in 1994. Thomas L. Friedman, a famous journalist and three-time Pulitzer Prize winner, once said that this is one of the most significant realignments in modern Middle East history.

Coincidentally, both the diplomats are women. They also touch upon the progress their countries have made in the long path of pursuing gender equality and women empowerment.

How has this reshaped the Middle East and the world? What are the opportunities ahead? How is the future of women leadership in the region? Check out the exclusive video to see diplomats' insights.
