Opinion | Hong Kong’s final decolonization and joint destiny with the mainland

By Angelo Giuliano, Political and financial analyst

Hong Kong and Mainland China are the big winners here; by enacting a long due National Security Law, Hong Kong has finally decolonized and the "one country, two systems" is a reality now with the restoration of Chinese sovereignty over Hong Kong. The recent economic setbacks should not last long as Mainland's economy is strong and once Covid19 is under control, tourism and the Hong Kong financial industry could experience a "Renaissance", with the increased support by the Central government and the opportunities that the Greater Bay Area will bring to Hong Kong.

Some protesters might have had legitimate requests, such as tackling inequalities, but they were hijacked by extremists and manipulated by the US. I am confident that the HKSAR Government will tackle those issues now that the most pressing matter of sovereignty has been solved.

As for the US-China trade war, it shall not affect Hong Kong's economy much as the US economy is declining and the World is experiencing a shift of economic gravity towards Eurasia. Hong Kong will always play a special role for China, to be the entry door or in-and-outflow capital.

Hong Kong needs to heal; it has been polarized over political issues, hijacked by extremists. Couples have divorced, families have parted, and friendships have been lost over the protests as the US "color revolution" playbook is all about dividing and creating chaos.

Unlike what Western media have predicted, there were not many people and companies leaving Hong Kong and the city still has a great future ahead in a common destiny with the motherland.

The hybrid war orchestrated by the US in Hong Kong wanted to create chaos, hoping for PLA intervention, creating an international outcry and building a fake narrative of the usual mantra of "freedom, human right, democracy" violations which never happened in Hong Kong. After 18 months of violent attacks by protesters, no one died except an innocent street cleaner that got killed by the same protesters. Hong Kong has been used in a China-USA proxy war. The plan had started even before the 1997 handover when Hong Kong democracy had been hijacked by huge investments done by the US through NED (National Endowment for Democracy), a CIA extension that has been used around the world to topple governments and create chaos.

When Deng Xiaoping was negotiating the handover with Thatcher, he had promised that for 50 years nothing would change. The "one country, two systems" was in fact an opportunity for China to show Taiwan that a reunification of the Island with its motherland was possible under a similar "one country, two systems". In fact, Taiwan pro-independence movements played a critical role in Hong Kong's protests; they helped in financing and logistics. US-backed Tsai Ying Wen's victory in the latest elections is only a result of what happened in Hong Kong. She manipulated and capitalized on the chaos created in Hong Kong and used it in her secessionist narrative in demonizing the motherland.

Traitors and useful idiots can be found everywhere, and the CIA is a master in this hybrid war while the USA is unable to deal with its own internal problems and contradictions of fake human rights and democracy.

While NATO countries are focusing on building up army bases around the World, creating chaos and wars, China has been focusing on poverty alleviation, technology and infrastructure. China has taken the de facto role of real leadership for the World by its actions and the results it has delivered, not by empty talks, and this is embarrassing the USA and the vassal states supporting this declining and immoral superpower.

What happened in Hong Kong could be seen in a near future as a defining moment. It can show the world that one of the most international places can also be a symbol of co-existence between the West and the East that somehow, we can look for what unites us while we can work out our differences. I like to see Hong Kong as the son and China as being the mother. Disagreements can happen between a son and a mother, but they are bound forever and nothing can replace the love that a mother can have for a son. While growing and becoming a parent, the son will get closer to the mother and will realize that there are no friends or fake US friends that can alienate this eternal bond. The future is bright for Hong Kong.
