French police believe that the country's most wanted man, 44-year-old Karim Ouali, is probably in Hong Kong and they are "99% sure" that he will commit other gruesome crimes, calling for public attention.
Sky News reported that Ouali was suspected of killing his colleague Jean Meyer with an ax at the control tower of the EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg in 2011, then absconded to Switzerland and changed his passport surname from "O" to "Q", before fleeing to Macao and HK.
In 2014, he was arrested and imprisoned for a period of time before being released after HK authorities discovered that he had forged a passport and entered the territory illegally.
Jacques Croly, head of the French fugitive arrest and search team, pointed out that Ouali's whereabouts have been unknown since 2016, but the authorities received reports in 2018 that he was still in HK, and since he had surrendered his passport to the HK authorities, he now has no travel documents and there has been no news that he has left HK.
Croly stressed that the French side has worked closely with HK, but Ouali is still at large. Croly said Ouali suffers from depression, paranoia and schizophrenia, describing "anyone who encounters him is in danger" and that it is necessary for HK citizens to be fully aware of his danger.
