
Under Hong Kong's worsening epidemic situation, the demand for Accident and Emergency services (A&Es) and inpatient sickbeds in public hospitals remains high.
The Hospital Authority (HA) announces today (Dec. 15) that Monday (Dec. 14) saw 4,342 first-time visitors at public hospitals' A&E departments, of which 896 were transferred to inpatient treatment. As of Monday midnight, HK's public hospital's inpatient bed occupancy rate reached 101%.
Among the 17 public hospitals in HK, nine have been operating above capacity, where the sickbeds are over-occupied. Five of them recorded occupancy rates of over 110%. Among them, Pok Oi Hospital has the highest occupancy rate of 113%. The occupancy rate of pediatric beds was 48% as of Monday midnight, with Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) having the highest rate of 67%.
