The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) holds a press conference today (Dec. 11) to announce the university's decision to change its name to Hong Kong Metropolitan University.
The OUHK announced the name change earlier and collected suggestions from faculties, students, alumni and the community. The university announces that it will be renamed Hong Kong Metropolitan University today.
University president Wong Yuk-shan said with HK being "a vibrant, international and metropolitan city", this name would be more suitable for the institution.
The name change is expected to be approved by the legislature within a few months to a year, says Wong.
In an announcement issued later Friday (Dec. 11), the university says that one female member of its staff was confirmed with the coronavirus. According to the university, she last worked on Wednesday (Dec. 9), without contact with students. Necessary anti-virus measures have been carried out on the campus.
