Joshua Wong arrested over anti-mask rally

Activist Joshua Wong is said to have been arrested when he reported to Central Police Station this afternoon (Sept. 24).

A post on his twitter page says the arrest is related to participating in an unauthorised assembly on Oct. 5 last year. It said he was also told that he also violated the anti-mask law.

It also said he was being accompanied by a lawyer.

The government had enacted a rule to stop people participating in public events wearing face masks, saying it is facilitating some anti-government protesters to indulge in violence.

The law had come into effect on Oct. 4 last year and the next day saw large groups of protesters take to the streets different key areas against the law.
