Survey: Nearly 70% HK respondents support launch of health code
The Hong Kong government said earlier that the health code was ready to be launched, but it would only be introduced after stabilization of the epidemic situation. According to the latest survey, 66% of the respondents supported the introduction of the health code. Moreover, 67% supported the establishment of travel bubbles between HK and the regions with the epidemic under control while 42% of the respondents believed that the measure would pose a greater risk to the local epidemic situation.
From Sept. 14 to Sept. 17, the Hong Kong Research Association conducted a random telephone survey and successfully interviewed 1,129 residents. According to the survey, 54% of the respondents "strongly agreed" to the introduction of health code by the HK government, 12% "relatively agreed", and 53% hoped that the government would introduce health code for Guangdong, HK and Macao at the end of this month, while only 29% "disagreed" and "strongly disagreed" with the introduction of health code.
Outbound HK residents are required to pass a virus test regardless of health code and travel bubbles. Regarding the price of the test, 72% of the respondents believed that the cost should be HK$500 or below. However, according to the survey report, private testing fees in HK range from HK$785 to HK$2,500, indicating that the fees are already beyond people's budget at this stage.
