Opinion | Why China will 'win' against the USA?
By Angelo Giuliano
China is an expert in Western politics/culture/society, while the West has very little knowledge of China. This might be the main reason the West has already lost the economic battle with China.
In our Western societies, we have been centered in our own culture and history. This is mainly due to a big ego and the following assumption:
- We are the best and smartest
- We are the elected people to lead the world
- We should teach and export our Western model
Because of this attitude which can be seen hegemonic, self-centered, brutal and arrogant, it might lead the world into a clash as the ego will never accept losing to China. The white man has always seen itself as superior, known in Chinese idiom as "自我感觉良好".
A few examples of the brutal, supremacist and racist actions throughout history:
- Colonization in most of the world
- Indians treated like sub-humans by the British
- Black slavery
- Opium War, British partial colonization in China
- Australian Aborigenes & American Indian genocide
- Recent oppression of the Arab world
- The brutality of police towards black people in the USA
This arrogant and racist attitude has not much changed, now we like to label ourselves as the good guys, giving hypocritical support to the BLM "Black lives matter". The white man is good at marketing. he is often the wolf in the shape of a lamb who likes to use the nice words of equality, peace, sustainable development, human rights, democracy and freedom. All nice words that we want to teach the world while we are the first who should be applying in our own countries.
China had 200 years for its revenge of humiliation, to study the Western mistakes and apply them to their best ancient leadership and management practice. They have been using their philosophers, sages to put together a strategy to get China back to its original position it had been holding throughout most of history.
Since 1978, with the reforms and opening-up policies of Deng Xiaoping, China had been slowly catching up with the West. Keeping a low profile and being centered on internal issues. While China has become an expert of Western countries, the West has been completely ignorant of China, and this is why the USA will lose to China.
The USA has made China its enemy, but little do they know about China, and USA arrogance might be the its biggest enemy. Humility and keeping space for curiosity and learning is often what makes the brightest people. While arrogance makes one shut down all the opened doors to knowledge and wisdom.
While on the contrary, China has used the way to learn about the enemy and oneself, known in Chinese idiom as "知己知彼" from The Art of War by Sun Tzu.
If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not to fear the results of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained, you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.
There are four levels of mastering knowledge
1. Unconscious incompetence
2. Conscious incompetence
3. Conscious competence
4. Unconscious competence
I am afraid the USA is merely at the first level. The USA doesn't know it doesn't know.
When in the USA you have a president that proclaims to be the best at everything and advise people to use "bleach" to fight COVID19, you might start thinking something has gone wrong. Ultimately the people voting are partly guilty to have chosen a clown as president.
So, I think China is facing the best enemy it could ever dream of facing. It is a chess game, not a poker game. You cannot bluff at chess; it is about well-planned strategy. Donald Trump is playing the fate of his country like a poker game, with lots of bluffs. He sees his country like one of his business ventures. Trump might become one of the best friends of China because ultimately, he will be the one destroying his own country.
Democracy has created the best people in the art of being elected but not the best people in the art of leadership and management.
But again here, it would need people to accept that they are at level one: Unconscious incompetence.
Thank God there is more wisdom with China re-emerging, so we get out of a children's game to step into the adult game, and switch from country view to focus on humanity destiny.
