Tam Yiu-chung believes local legislation of Article 23 to be enacted in the first half of 2022
Member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China Tam Yiu-chung said today (October 3) that he believes the local legislation for Article 23 of the Hong Kong Basic Law can be completed in the first half of next year.
He pointed out that the central government has been very tolerant the past few years of social unrest in HK. As an international city, HK should be prevented from using foreign forces as a base for subverting the country or endangering national security.
Tam said that society should not only emphasize "two systems." Otherwise, it will give people an impression of rejecting "one country" and the central government. He also said that the Basic Law states that "one country, two systems" will remain unchanged for 50 years, but it does not mean that there will be changes in 2047.
