Mass Transit Railway (MTR) said today that a train door has broken at Yau Ma Tei Station on the Tsuen Wan Line, and service on the Tsuen Wan Line has been disrupted.

A similar serious incident occurred at Causeway Bay Station on the MTR Island Line on Dec. 2 last year.

On the evening of that day, a train door was suspected to have fallen off while in motion, suspending service at the MTR Wanchai to Quarry Bay Station, and causing a large number of people to leave the station from the platform.

As a result of the incident, there were crowds of people waiting for buses in the area of Causeway Bay, Wan Chai and Central, leading to traffic congestion on the road.

One month after the incident, MTR announced the investigation report, saying that the panel of the billboard had tilted outward and collided with a pair of doors of the train that was entering the platform.

MTR said that it was actively implementing the recommendations in the investigation report, including the introduction of preventive maintenance for trackside billboards, strengthening the procedures for replacing and locking billboards, and enhancing regular supervision and auditing of the contractor.
