The State Council Tariff Commission issued a statement today (April 11) condemning the U.S. government's decision to raise so-called "reciprocal tariffs" on Chinese imports to 125% as of April 10, 2025. In response, China will raise additional tariffs to 125% on imported U.S. products from April 12.
The commission emphasized that further tariff hikes are economically meaningless, warning the U.S. government would "become a laughingstock in the annals of world economic history." At current tariff levels, U.S. exports to China have already lost market viability. Should Washington persist in its "game," Beijing will simply ignore the provocations.
