The Hong Kong Immigration Department announced today (March 27) that starting March 31 (Monday), children aged 7 and above who hold a Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card and a valid HKSAR passport will be eligible to use the e-Channel for self-service immigration clearance.

Eligibility and Requirements

From March 31, the updated e-Channel service will be available to:

  • Children aged 7 to 10 who are Hong Kong Permanent Residents
  • Holders of a smart Hong Kong Identity Card
  • Possess a valid Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) passport
  • Minimum height requirement: 1.1 meters

Children meeting these criteria do not need prior registration and can directly use facial recognition technology to complete immigration clearance at all Hong Kong control points.

Enhancing Travel Convenience for Families

The expansion of e-Channel access is expected to streamline border crossings, particularly for families traveling with young children. The Hong Kong Immigration Department has been actively enhancing its clearance systems to accommodate growing passenger demands while ensuring efficient and secure immigration procedures.
