The website "TasteAtlas," which compiles information on culinary delights from around the world, has recently released its list of the "100 Worst Rated Foods in the World" globally for 2025.
Blodplättar from Sweden tops the list, while Finland's Blodpalt and Sweden's Calskrove rank second and third respectively. Cantonese mooncakes, a favorite among Hong Kong residents, placed 25th on the list.
Rated out of five stars, the top two dishes both contain the word "blood," which may frighten many people even by their names.
Blodplättar, which scored only 1.6 stars, topped the list. Sweden, Finland, and Norway all share this dish, which is made from traditional pancake batter and added with animal blood. The pancakes have a smoky and chewy texture and appear in a reddish-brown color. They can also be seasoned with onions and other spices or served with jam.
The second-ranked dish, blodpalt, only registers 1.8 stars, which are the dark-brown dumplings prepared with rye or barley flour and animal's blood. Although they were traditionally made with reindeer's blood, today they appear in numerous regional varieties which employ blood of various animals, different spices, and occasionally mashed potatoes.
Surprisingly, Cantonese mooncakes, a favorite among Hong Kongers, garners only 2.4 stars, ranking 25th. According to the website's description, Cantonese mooncakes are a traditional food for the Mid-Autumn Festival, often filled with sweet lotus seed paste and salted egg yolk, symbolizing the full moon. The soft pastry has a sweet and rich flavor.
In addition to the aforementioned foods, Thai deep-fried silk worms (Hon Mhai), Thai fish entrails sour curry (Kaeng Tai Pla), and Cambodian fried spider (A-ping) are also on the list.
