Police warned the public to avoid purchasing concert tickets from unofficial sources after five men were arrested for selling counterfeit tickets.
An inspector from the Kowloon City District Crime Squad reported on Saturday (Jan. 4) that over 20 complaints of suspected scams have been received in recent weeks. Victims reported buying concert tickets at inflated prices from various online platforms and social media, only to discover at the venue that their tickets were fake.
"The counterfeit tickets we confiscated appear genuine, in terms of both font and paper quality, making it difficult for the average person to distinguish them," he explained.
According to him, the scammers also arranged in-person meetings with victims and provided ticket verification methods to gain their trust.
The inspector also noted that the five arrested men, aged between 18 and 45, are suspected of obtaining property through deception.
