The government stated today (Jan. 1) that on New Year's Eve, the Immigration Department recorded approximately 156,000 travelers entering Hong Kong through various land, sea, and air control points, with about 120,000 of them being mainland visitors, accounting for 77% of the total incoming travelers.
During the period from midnight to 6:30 a.m. today (Jan. 1), approximately 25,000 mainland visitors exited through various land border control points.
In terms of major events, the New Year's Eve countdown fireworks display held at Victoria Harbour attracted over 400,000 viewers. In response to the event, special border crossing arrangements were implemented. Overall, port operations and traffic were smooth and orderly during this period. Short-distance cross-border bus services and special overnight bus routes connecting to the ports were also enhanced.
Regarding tour groups, according to the information from the Travel Industry Authority, about 220 inbound tour groups from the mainland visited Hong Kong during the New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, involving approximately 7,200 travelers, with about 72% of them on overnight trips.
The Secretary for Administration, Chan Kwok-kee, who leads the interdepartmental working group for festive arrangements, expressed gratitude to citizens and travelers for their cooperation, as well as to various relevant government departments, agencies, and the industry for their close cooperation and full commitment.
