Former Chelsea and Newcastle United star Christian Atsu has been found alive and transferred to hospital after being pulled from the rubble of a building that collapsed following this weekend's earthquake that has devastated parts of Türkiye and Syria.

"Christian Atsu was removed from the wreckage with injuries. Unfortunately, our sporting director Taner Savut is still under the rubble," Hatayspor vice-president Mustafa Ozat said.

Atsu's rescue has also been confirmed by Ghana's ambassador to Türkiye.

Atsu, a 31-year-old former Ghanaian international, was injured during Monday's 7.8-magnitude earthquake, which claimed hundreds of lives.

Atsu's current club, Hatayspor, is situated in the Turkish city of Hatay, which is thought to be among the regions most severely impacted by the earthquake.

Numerous people are feared to be trapped under the wreckage of hundreds of wrecked buildings.

Numerous aftershocks, including one that was nearly as powerful as the initial earthquake, were felt throughout the region, including in Lebanon, Cyprus, Iraq, and as far away as Greenland.
