The Acting Chief Executive, Chan Kwok-ki, visited the Lo Wu Control Point this morning (Feb. 6) to view the situation on the first day of the full resumption of cross-boundary travel between Hong Kong and the Mainland. He was briefed by his colleagues on duty at the control point on the work involved in different aspects of the clearance and talked to the public.

Chan said that with the full resumption of cross-boundary travel from today, all control points are in operation without daily quota arrangement and pre-trip nucleic acid testing requirements.

As of 12:00 noon today, 83,000 passengers used the land crossings, including about 50,000 northbound and 33,000 southbound passengers.

During the visit, Chan was briefed by the relevant departments at Lo Wu Control Point on the diversion procedures for departing passengers, the services provided by the Immigration Department, and the arrangements for passengers. He was pleased to note the excellent order of the control point and instructed colleagues of relevant departments to keep a close watch on the passenger flow and manage it properly, especially on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

On transport support, Chan instructed the relevant departments to maintain close liaison with public transport operators to ensure that sufficient public transport services are available to take passengers to and from the control point during opening hours.

He also reminded the relevant departments to work closely with the MTR to closely monitor the passenger flow and actual situation at the Lo Wu Control Point and Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point, implement passenger management measures and adjust the frequency as necessary to help ease the flow of passengers and ensure the safety and order of the relevant MTR stations and control points.

In addition, Chan spoke with some members of the public and was pleased to learn that they were satisfied with the smooth and convenient clearance process.

Chan expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all the staff who have been dedicated to the implementation of the full resumption of cross-boundary travel with a professional and efficient spirit.
