Powerful earthquake kills at least 237 in Syria
Syria's earthquake that struck the area on Monday resulted in at least 237 deaths and more than 500 injuries, according to Fuat Oktay, Vice President of Türkiye.
Damiriyeh was quoted by the Syrian Arab News Agency as saying that general emergency plans have been implemented to provide for the affected areas and that private hospitals have been ordered to receive all injured cases.
The Syrian Ministry of Transport announced earlier the suspension of train traffic on all railways as a precautionary measure, pending inspection of the bridges and tracks of the railway network.
The powerful earthquake was also felt across Lebanon, where people drove their vehicle areas away from buildings in an effort to remain safe from any aftershocks.
For fear of further tremors and destruction, people in Tripoli and the neighboring areas fired bullets into the air to awaken those who were asleep.
