Tourism leader: Huge amount of inquiries received as quarantine rule lifted

Steve Huen Kwok-chuen, the executive director of EGL Holdings Company Limited, said in a radio program today (Sept. 26) that the travel agency received a large number of inquiries after the new arrangements for inbound travelers were announced last Friday (Sept. 23).

There were queues at the travel agency branches that night, with the number of applicants reaching triple digits, he added, and many customers chose to visit Japan in October and November to enjoy the autumn leaves.

The epidemic continues to look up, with the government today relaxing entry quarantine arrangement to "0+3", that is, the complete abolition of hotel quarantine, and three-day medical surveillance for every inbound traveler.

The community is gradually moving toward the road to recovery.

Huen also pointed out that the current airline capacity shortage has led to an increase in air ticket prices, the previous round-trip tickets to Tokyo only cost HK$2000 to 3000, but now jumped to HK$4000 to 6000.

He also expects that it will take six months to a year to return to business before the epidemic.
