Any attempt to distort, dispute or deny one-China principle as well as seek "Taiwan independence" separatist move will end in failure, said a Chinese mainland spokesperson on Thursday (August 11).

Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the comments in response to a media query regarding Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' disapproval of a white paper titled "The Taiwan Question and China's Reunification in the New Era" published on Wednesday by the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council and the State Council Information Office.

The white paper explained the resolute efforts of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to realize China's complete reunification, and has won extensive support at home and abroad, Ma said.

The DPP authorities' retrogressive moves cannot stop the complete reunification, the spokesperson said, adding that the development of the Chinese mainland is the key factor deciding the future of cross-Strait ties and realizing complete national reunification.

As a result of the civil war in China in the late 1940s and the interference of external forces, the two sides of the Taiwan Straits have fallen into a state of protracted political confrontation, according to the white paper.

"However, the DPP authorities distorted the confrontation state as a 'non-subordination between the two sides of the Straits,' which is wishful thinking and reckless disregard for the facts and an outright lie," the spokesperson added.
