Hong Kong's vaccination rate for COVID-19 has been under expectations. The government is actively taking measures to promote vaccination, including allowing civil servants to take leave after vaccination. Chief Executive Carrie Lam said at a press conference on Monday afternoon (May 31) that a campaign named "Early Vaccination for All" will be launched to boost the vaccination rate in the city, so that the community can return to normalcy as soon as possible before September.
Lam pointed out that the government and the private sectors will launch a number of measures, including various vaccine reward schemes, such as adjusting the social distance measures in business premises based on the "vaccine bubble" policy. In addition, the government as an employer will provide vaccination leave for civil servants and other government employees.
Lam mentioned that the last local case of unknown origin in HK was identified on April 23, and the fourth wave of the outbreak is basically over. However, it is still not easy to achieve "zero infection" in the city. She stressed that mass vaccination of the public is the only way for HK to get out of the epidemic.
