National knowledge quiz enhances cultural identity of HK students: Jiang Zaizhong

Jiang Zaizhong, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Chairman of Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group, attended the award ceremony of the 10th Hong Kong National Knowledge Contest.

The award ceremony of the 10th Hong Kong National Knowledge Contest (Contest) was held on Sunday (April 11). Jiang Zaizhong, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Chairman of Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group, attended the event and delivered a speech.

Jiang said that with the support of the community and schools, the number of participating schools reached a record high, with over 5,000 students from 180 primary, secondary and tertiary schools taking part.

The Contest aims to provide a platform for HK students to learn about Chinese history and culture, and to understand the progress of the motherland, so as to enhance the national and cultural identity of HK youth.

He said that last year was the 10th anniversary of the competition and the 30th anniversary of the promulgation of the Basic Law. In view of the implementation of the National Security Law in HK, the competition included questions related to the Basic Law and the National Security Law in its content design, with the hope to enhance students' understanding and knowledge of national security.

Jiang added that since last year, the National Security Law has significantly reduced the number of crimes and restored social order. The new amendments to Annexes I and II of the Basic Law, approved by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress at the end of March, pave the way for HK's electoral reform, which is essential to ensure "patriots governing HK."

With the changes coming ahead, HK is on the path of recovery and better integration with the overall development of the country, Jiang stressed.
