LeaveHomeSafe app downloaded by over half of HK population: Alfred Sit

Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Alfred Sit, says in a blog post on Sunday (April 11) that the number of downloads of the contact tracing mobile app LeaveHomeSafe has reached 3.77 million, which is more than half of the population in HK.

More than 83,000 public and private venues have participated in the program, Sit adds. Since the end of February, 19,000 people have been tested at community testing centers after receiving risk notifications from the app.

The program's records will not be kept in any systems and will be automatically deleted after 31 days, so there will be no leakage of personal information and no privacy risk, Sit says.

He urges those who have not downloaded the app to do so as soon as possible, saying that the popularization of the app will help the city get over the disease sooner.
