Hong Kong's Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Law Chi-kwong, says in a blog post today (April 11) that the "Greater Bay Area Youth Employment Scheme" (Scheme) has received an overwhelming response from enterprises since its launch in January this year. As of April 7, 275 companies have offered more than 2,000 job vacancies, more than half of which are in the innovation and technology field.

Law stresses that the Scheme is in line with the country's 14th Five-Year Plan and is a concrete manifestation of the HK government's commitment to promoting the integration of HK and the Greater Bay Area.

The vacancies have been vetted and uploaded by the relevant department for application by eligible people. As of the 7th of this month, 5,727 applications have been received, Law says.

Law reiterates that the GBA, with a GDP of nearly US$1.7 trillion, is one of the most open and dynamic regions in the country. How to grasp the opportunities of the GBA is a question that HK young people should think about, he says.

Law adds that in addition to encouraging and supporting young people to work in mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area through the Scheme, the SAR government will also continue to promote youth development in the GBA.

The Home Affairs Bureau has a series of programs to encourage young people to go to mainland cities in the GBA for internships or business start-ups.
